Meet 6 year old Cedar! She's a sweet as can be ex-puppy mill golden retriever. Puppy mill dogs will vary greatly in how social they are. Our recent puppy mill dogs, including Cedar are timid, but in no way as anti-social as some of the "mill" dogs we have rescued in the past. These dogs have probably never been called by a name and only out of their cages for breeding. These golden retrievers have never been in a house, never had a toy, and did not have good care in relationship to their health.
Cedar had several hot spots when she arrived and was on the thin side. Her teeth were ground down from chewing on her cage.
If you would like to adopt one of our puppy mill dogs, please be prepared to be in it for the long haul. It is so worth it, but the first several weeks will be hard and not what you are used to as far as a “normal” dog. You will not find sweeter dogs and they are so worth the work to watch them blossom and become happy family members.
A physical fenced yard is required to keep these dogs safe, as these dogs would take off otherwise. Many inquire. Few are committed.
When Cedar went to her initial vet appointment and walked away with SIX different medications. The poor girl had a skin infection, an ear infection, tested positive for Lyme disease, and has a couple lumps in her mammary glands. This will be removed when she is spayed on January 12th and examined.
Can you please help us with Cedar's medical expenses? We greatly appreciate whatever help you can provide our non-profit, all-volunteer rescue.
Cedar is currently pending adoption. If you are interested in adopting, the first step is to read
"How To Adopt". If you qualify, let us know that you would like to adopt Cedar or to become a foster-to-adopt family for another dog.
